Nearly 100 women and gender expansive people will run for office across Rhode Island in 2024, and each will need a qualified campaign manager to help them succeed. Enter ‘Help Her Run’, a non-partisan training series developed by Gather RI.

After producing a successful trial in the fall of 2023, Gather RI partnered with Women’s Fund of Rhode Island to move forward with Help Her Run training for Spring 2024.

Students learned about campaign tactics, fundraising, volunteer management, communications, and how to develop an election win
number. Guest speakers included Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls), Rep. Rebecca Kislak (D-Dist. 4, Providence), Sen. Bridget Valverde (D-Dist. 35, East Greenwich, North Kingstown, South Kingstown), and former Rep. Liana Cassar (D-Dist. 66, Barrington, Riverside).

“We believe more women and especially women of color need to be at the tables where decisions are made and resources are allocated,” says Kelly Nevins, CEO of the Women’s Fund of Rhode Island. “This means helping more women to get elected into office. Gather RI’s campaign manager training is an important step towards making this a reality, surrounding candidates with the support network they need to be successful.”
